The number of fake social media accounts impersonating the National Transport and Safety Authority is growing too fast. The Authority has warned members of the public against engaging them and urges Kenyans to use their accounts that have been verified.
The scam alert was issued on Friday by NTSA, stating that fraudsters have created fake accounts on various social media platforms acting as the authority in order to scam or extort personal details.
The Authority further continued cautioning members seeking service or making inquiries not to share personal information with individuals operating the accounts, as they are not affiliated with them.
NTSA channels have been verified, and those wishing to make inquiries, lodge complaints, or seek services should use official channels or the NTSA website with its designated customer care contacts.
The channels include X (@ntsa_kenya), the NTSA website (www.ntsa.go.ke ), Facebook (NTSA KENYA), email ([email protected]), WhatsApp (NTSA), customer care lines 0709932000/300, SMS 22847_NTSA, and YouTube (NTSA_Kenya).
It’s time to keep your data out of bad hands amid rising cases of online impersonation that target government agencies and fraudsters using fake, made-up accounts to deceive users into sharing personal data and making payments for services that aren’t there.
NTSA urges members not to share sensitive information with unverified accounts, be it identification details, passwords, or financial information. If anyone encounters suspicious accounts that try to act as the authority, you should avoid interacting with them, block the accounts, and report them to the relevant social media platform.
