A section of the Mombasa Road towards Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will be temporarily partially closed from 17 September 2026 to 22 October 2026, allowing the construction of a box drain.
The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) published on their social media the Notice dated 10 September 2026, which notifies the public and motorists that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) at Cabanas on the Eastern Bypass off-ramp, on the JKIA-bound side, will be temporarily closed partially to allow the construction of a box drain.

The partial closure will take effect from Thursday, September 17, 2026, to Thursday, October 22, 2026, lasting for 35 days. KeNHA says that motorists who intend to use Mombasa Road (JKIA Bound) from Eastern Bypass at that time will be directed to use a designated diversion lane, and they will be needed to follow the proposed direction given by traffic marshals, who ensure there is minimal traffic disruption and also ensure the safety of the road users.
All Motorists intending to use Mombasa Road (JKIA bound) from Eastern Bypass will use provided diversion lane and follow the proposed directions by traffic marshals to ensure minimal traffic disruption in compliance with road safety measures.

Motorists are urged by the Authority to follow the proposed traffic plan and to cooperate with the police and traffic marshals who are deployed at the site. Normal traffic operation will be restored once the construction works are completed.
