The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) will temporarily close a section of the Thika Super Highway from the Globe Roundabout to pave the way for reinstatement work at the nearby Nairobi River Bridge.

According to the notice that’s dated March 12, 2026, KeNHA’s Director General, Luka Kimeli, said that the highway will be partially closed from March 12 to March 19, 2026, allowing engineers to conduct restoration works on the bridge and along the busy stretch.

He continues and says that there are several traffic diversions in place that will be used during the period of the works to ease maneuverability and minimize congestion on the affected route.

Those traveling from Thika and moving towards the Nairobi CBD will use the Globe Overpass, while those approaching from Thika and heading towards University Way will be diverted to Professor Wangari Mathai Road. Also motorists traveling from Thika moving towards Kirinyaga Road and OTC Bus Station will have to use Ring Road.

Motorists using Kipande Road heading to the CBD will be redirected through Limuru Road at Fig Tree just before joining Prof. Wangari Mathai Road. Motorists traveling along University Way from the Central Business District (CBD) and wanting to make a U-turn at the Globe Roundabout towards Thika will be required to use the Guru Nanak U-Turn.

KeNHA urges motorists to exercise caution around the work areas and to follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as to cooperate with the police and traffic marshals who are on the site.
