In a press release for the year 2025/2026, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has released statistics on energy consumption, with electric mobility leading the categories recording the fastest growth from last year to June 2026.
Electric mobility consumption of electricity increased by 143.01 percent, from 5.04 gigawatt-hours (GWh) recorded in the previous year to 12.25 GWh by June 2026.
According to EPRA, the reason for the increase in power consumption was due to more people adopting the e-mobility tariff, with the number of e-mobility customers rising from 115 to 543 during 2025 to June 2026.
Earlier reports indicate increasing demand for EVs, with 2025 recording 24,754 registered vehicles compared to 2022, which had 796 registered vehicles. The report, compiled with EPRA’s press release, clearly shows Kenya’s path in adopting EVs and its products and hints at a growing electric vehicle population on Kenya’s roads.
What will hinder the growth of EVs is the current status of the country’s power infrastructure. Just in May, Kenya Power customers faced some of the worst outages, with some facing more frequent and longer power cuts.
