After the Middle Eastern investment and technology firm Silver Box took over control of Mobius Motors, we thought it would be the rise of the automaker, but that isn’t going to happen.
Mobius Motors has remained quiet, and it seems nothing is going on there, with the last post on their Facebook page dating back to 11 Mar 2025. We just got the news that the company is falling off the market due to bankruptcy.
Now, my doubts about the company going bankrupt or shutting down have become real. In an article published by Nyakundi Report, it highlights about 13 Kenyan startups that had raised KSh 94 billion before going under, with Mobius Motors being part of the 13 startups.
The motor company became known for producing vehicles that were specifically meant for African roads, and they were designed to conquer rough terrains. The ambition of the company attracted investors who saw an opportunity in the company to build a local automotive brand, which would help owners rely less on imported rugged SUVs.
Mobius Motor Company had raised about KSh 7.3 billion. However, vehicle manufacturing, especially for startups, requires a significant amount of capital, and achieving enough sales to cover the company’s production of other units and operating costs proved difficult for the company.
By 2024, the company had shut down its operations in the country, and on 11 Mar 2025, the company was acquired by another investor through bankruptcy proceedings, and they revived its operations but didn’t go like before.
Mobius Motors has produced several models, including the Mobius 1 and Mobius 2, and they stopped at the Mobius 3, which is their refined model with modern looks and features.
