In a notice published today, Monday, May 11, 2026, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) stated that it will temporarily close a section of Eldoret Road, Nairobi, as of Monday, 18 May 2026, at 6 am, running for 4 months and ending 6 pm Friday, 18 September 2026.
From the notice, KURA explains the reason that leads to the road section closure: that’s to allow the construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River.
The closure is likely to disrupt traffic flow, causing delays for motorists who use Heshima Avenue, Wangu Avenue, Athi Road, Jogoo Road, and some roads in Eastleigh.
KURA urges motorists to use alternative routes during the 4 months of the construction process. The alternative routes have been detailed in a sketch published by the institution. Apart from the sketch, motorists will be guided by traffic police and traffic marshals who are placed in the area.
KURA has apologized for the inconvenience caused by the road closure and stated that the construction is part of the urban mobility transformation program and is expected to enhance connectivity and reduce travel delays.
