If you have been keen enough, you will notice that the Kenya automotive scene occasionally gets a rare vehicle on spot, capturing the attention of enthusiasts. One instance is the legendary 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 reportedly spotted in Kenya.

For now I have seen about two of them in videos; I have seen so far one with custom color and a roaring sound and the other one wearing factory color blue with white stripes running at the center of the bonnet.
Details about its owner and mechanical configuration remain unknown, but its appearance raises many questions about its authenticity and potential value while it’s here in Kenya.
Shelby Cobra 247 Overview
The Shelby Cobra 247 was developed through a collaboration between American automotive entrepreneur Carroll Shelby and British manufacturer AC Cars, bringing up a car that combined a lightweight sports car chassis and a powerful Ford V8 engine.
The Shelby Cobra was introduced back in 1965 and features a larger engine than earlier models. It also has a wider body, and the chassis was revised to accommodate the increased performance. It remains an iconic car today due to its long bonnet, rounded wheel arches, compact cabin, and open-top design.
1965 and 1967 are the years that the original 427 Cobra were produced, and it only had 348 units built. It’s a rare piece of history on the wheels these days with its racing heritage and raw driving experience; it has become a highly desirable car that collectors race to have in their collection.
Engine and Specifications
The Shelby Cobra 427 originally features a 7.0-liter Ford V8 engine that delivers approximately 425 horsepower. The engine is connected to a four-speed manual transmission, which delivers power to the rear wheels. Top speed is approximately 264 km/h.
It came in different trim levels, i.e., the Cobra 427 Street, primarily meant for the road; the Cobra 427 Competition, built for racing; and the Cobra 427 S/C (Semi/Competition), which combined racing-inspired equipment with road-going capabilities. We haven’t determined yet if the above spec meets the one reportedly spotted in Kenya, but it closely resembles the Cobra 427 Street.
How much does the 1997 Shelby Cobra 427 cost in Kenya?

Based on international pricing, the original Shelby Cobra 427 cost above US$ 1 million; when converted into Kenyan shillings, it will cost approximately Ksh 130 million and more if importation costs are added.
