  • A rain-triggered landslide near Kolol has completely blocked the Iten-Kabarnet road.
  • KeNHA advises motorists to detour via the Iten-Eldoret-Eldama Ravine-Kabarnet route while the road is cleared.
  • Clearing efforts are currently underway, and drivers are urged to exercise caution and follow instructions from on-site traffic marshals.

Today, the 2nd of May, 2026, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory for motorists who are using or intend to use the Iten to Kabarnet road after landslide debris blocked the section of the road near Kolol.

The landslide may have occurred due to ongoing rainfall, where debris from the upper slope spilled down, burying the road to Kabarnet and from Iten. The incident happened kilometers away from Kolol.

Motorists who have not yet commenced with their journey are advised by KeNHA to consider using the Iten to Eldoret to Eldama Ravine to Kabarnet route so that they won’t be stuck while waiting for traffic restoration on the affected route.

“Restoration efforts are currently underway, and the authority is working to reinstate normal traffic flow as soon as possible. Motorists who have not yet commenced their journeys are advised to consider using Iten – Eldoret – Eldama Ravine – Kabarnet as an alternative route. “Statement by KeNHA.

KeNHA went on urging motorists to exercise caution and strictly follow instructions issued by traffic police officers and traffic marshals who are on the site.

“Motorists are, therefore, advised to exercise caution and strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site to ensure their safety.” KeNHA.

The Kenya National Highways Authority is closely monitoring the developed situation and will be updating the affected road users and motorists on events happening.
