Taking it to extremes, well, Kaparo Auto Garage, Kitengela, does better in transforming the factory-standard look of the 90s Defender pickup to a rugged, aggressive appearance custom Defender pickup. This 1990 Land Rover Defender 90 pickup didn’t just get a decent look but also got the absolute right to brag and stand tall among the elite 4WD custom vehicles in Kenya.

When you look at this customized 1990 Defender 90 pickup from the front, you notice its aggressive appearance that’s enhanced by a massive wraparound black bull bar integrated with heavy-duty mesh guards, which acts as a key protector of the headlights and turn lights. In the night, there is no need to worry about the dark road ahead, as this custom Defender 90 has been fitted with auxiliary high-output LED pods that are mounted into the bumper, and also, to keep its traditional classic overland look, the hood still retains a top-mounted spare tire that balances the vehicle’s wide, aggressive stance.

Its left profile reveals an incredible depth of custom fabrication. The other thing that attracted my attention is the dual vertical side exit exhaust that runs up behind the cab, complete with perforated heat shields. The exhaust replaces the standard underbody one, and it gives the Defender 90 pickup truck a unique and off-road-ready profile. Security is well assured, with rugged bolted-on steel mesh window and door guards, keeping you rest assured that you will find things intact. Also a heavy-duty tubular side step is added, and its scripted “OFF-ROAD 4×4” underlines its readiness for rock sliding.

Shifting to the right side of the vehicle, it brings the essential vitals into view. This is where the snorkel is cleanly placed just behind the passenger door. It’s a key component on off-road cars, where it allows the vehicle to tackle deep river crossings or dusty convoy trails. A heavy-duty frame construction like an antenna can be spotted on this side, keeping communication throughout remote bush treks. Every detail here is customized to blend in with the tactical matte finish and aggressive deep-dish wheels.

From the rear three-quarter angle, the architecture has been built to support heavy gear, and it features a rugged full-size spare tire carrier shrouded in a custom 4×4-branded cover. Flanking the spare tire carrier are fuel jerry can mounts and a vertical high-lift jack setup.

On inspecting closer on the open truck bed, it was worked purely with an engineering perspective. The rear section seems to be reinforced with a custom structural roll cage that seamlessly blends into a robust sports bar design. To make it quick and easier to access the cargo or the roof area, a black-finished ladder is permanently mounted to the rear right side of the vehicle. To finish, the car wouldn’t be complete without its auxiliary rear-facing work lights, which proves the Land Rover Defender’s spirit still lives inside here.
